Personality: Bennosuke is an odd duckling. In social situations he's incredibly laid back, lazy and more than happy to joke the day away. He'd probably take to sake pretty easily if the various people in his life hadn't forbidden him from having it, and he definitely enjoys good food and company. When it comes to the people he thinks of as close, he can be incredibly caring and protective. He has no regrets in life as of yet, and he is determined to master anything that he picks up.

In battle he is highly analytical and calculated, preferring to be as efficient and utilitarian as possible about the act of killing. He enjoys combat, testing his skills to their limits, and has made a name for himself for his behavior. He doesn't shy away from doing what he needs to in order to be victorious, even going so far as to employ psychological warfare and other tactics some might consider underhanded. That said, this does not diminish from his skills.

Some consider him arrogant about his own abilities, stubborn, and even a bit blasphemous, but he is determined to reach a level that no one else has, to go beyond being the "greatest fighter under the sun" and reach something only he seems to be able to see. If someone doesn't necessarily spark his interest, he can be quite passive-aggressive or even just downright aggressive. This...doesn't help the image that others occasionally have of him, and has started quite a few fights with samurai.

Two years after his last interaction with Arisu Ryugami and the discovery of their daughter, he has rededicated himself to the blade anew. He refuses to fail his final duty to the Shogun he had served, and has done his best to be a good father to Kanna despite not being there for the first seven years of her life.

Combat Profile

General Fighting Style: Bennosuke focuses on the sword above all else, mostly due to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding his medical condition. This has not deterred him, however, and it would not be inaccurate to say that there are few that could truly rival his mastery of kenjutsu.

Weapons/Ninja Tools: The usual for a rounin, plus a few goodies. A katana he was gifted when he was declared a sword-saint, a wakizashi that the previous Shogun had bestowed upon him, and a tanto that was gifted to him by Arisu when they began their trysts.

Past Profile

History: Bennosuke was born with an odd condition, where his chakra network and tenketsu have become warped and leak chakra into his muscles. It then pools there, augmenting his physical capabilities to the limit while simultaneously preventing him from learning Ninjutsu, Ninshu, or even Genjutsu. As a child his father, a minor samurai who was renowned for his skill attempted to break his son's will due to his "disability" and refusal to fall in line. This didn't work, and his son ran away from home.

From there, the kid picked up the sword for his own sake and not just his "training", the one thing that he and his father agreed on. He excelled at his duties, even going so far as to take on jobs that normal samurai couldn't touch as a hitokiri, an assassin that had more political and social fluidity than a ninja in the Land of Iron. At the age of thirteen, he managed what most would think was impossible, and killed one of the sword-saints in single combat, being awarded the man's title and a sword of his own instead of whatever he'd found scavenging up until that point.

It was at that point that the Shogun took the boy in as his own personal assassin. He spent a year in the man's service, and several more in the service of Arisu, the man's daughter and someone he had grown close to along with her sibling. He served as a confidant and as the shadow behind the throne, although the wanderlust was always present.

Eventually, he finally came across someone he couldn't beat, the man he seeks to surpass and in his mind one of the few he can truly respect as a friend. He was on a job to kill a VIP that the Red Cloaks had been hired to defend, and Jinnosuke Moriyama is the one that crossed blades with him. No matter how he approached, no matter how much of his built-up strength he released, he could do no more than match the man. Even better, he was pushed back. He truly had FUN for the first time. Declaring that this was to be his new pastime, Bennosuke happily backed down, joining the Red Cloaks and becoming one of Jinno's most loyal swordsmen.

Kensei, Rounin, Assassin, Mercenary, Friend. He's worn all of those faces, and regrets none of them.
